The exhibition takes visitors on a journey of discovery around the topic of “sustainable, balanced and healthy nutrition”.
Eating is an important part of our lives and much more than just providing energy. With the new exhibition “World of Food”, the Umwelt Arena Schweiz takes its visitors on an exciting journey of discovery around the topic of “Sustainable, balanced and healthy nutrition”. Edible insects, officially approved as food on May 1st, are an integral part of the exhibition.
The new exhibition “World of Food” at the Umwelt Arena Schweiz was realized with financial support from the SV Foundation. This aims to sensitize the general public to nutrition issues and enable them to eat healthy and at the same time inexpensive. The Swiss Society for Nutrition SGE supported the Umwelt Arena in the scientifically proven preparation of the exhibition information.
Balanced and enjoyable food and drink are part of a healthy lifestyle. In this way, the body is supplied with energy, vital nutrients and protective substances, physical well-being is promoted and diseases are prevented. The Swiss food pyramid illustrates a balanced diet. The combination of foods in the right proportions makes a balanced diet. With the help of columns, the environmental pollution of individual foods is also shown in the exhibition. At the newly developed, interactive “running buffet”, visitors can test their knowledge in a playful way.
In addition to balance and environmental impact, the exhibition in the Umwelt Arena also shows the costs of various menus. There is also the option of downloading recipes on site. The “World of Food” exhibition also gives tips on what can be “conjured up” from food that is supposedly no longer usable – and how food waste can be minimized in this way; Currently around a third of the groceries bought in Switzerland is thrown away.
Crickets, grasshoppers and mealworms, the alternative protein sources of the future, have been approved as food in Switzerland since May 1, 2017. The “world of food” shows the opportunities and potential of new foods.
An integral part of the new exhibition is the environmental kitchen, which can be rented together with a professional for cooking events, cooking courses or special aperitifs – sustainably ecological, ethical and individual.
